All Kyokushin Karate World Tournament

October 2-4, 2009, Budapest- Hungary

This will be the first time since Sosai Oyama’s death that a Kyokushin world tournament will be a truly OPEN tournament. 58 countries, 20 other Kyokushin organizations, 461 competitors in 9 divisions, 20,000 spectators !!!

Kyokushin-kan’s 2nd World Tournament will be held this October 2-4 in Budapest Hungary. In addition to Kyokushin-kan participants from 58 countries, there will be representatives from at least 12 and perhaps as many as 20 other Kyokushin organizations. This will be the first time since Sosai Oyama’s death that a Kyokushin world tournament will be a truly OPEN tournament. This tournament draws as many as 461 competitors in 9 divisions (4 male weight classes, 3 female, and Kata for men and women) to the largest, most-modern sports arena in Eastern Europe, seating as many as 20,000 spectators. For more reasons than one, therefore, this tournament could become the biggest Kyokushin tournament in History!

The organizers of the WT have prepared not only with a simple program but with a show by means of which they want to take the interest of those who are interested in other combat sports.

Karate society is preparing for this huge event, since if they manage to join and find a common way to Kyokushin Karate, there is realistic chance to meet this sport in the Olympic Games in 2016 !

Report of 2nd Kyokushin-kan European Championships

The 2nd European Kyokushin-kan Championships was held successfully with participation of Kancho Royama along with Japanese team and most International Committee members of Kyokushin-kan International- Honbu in Sep 27 & 28, 2008 in Moscow Martial Arts Center.

Totally 23 countries including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Britain, France, Germany, Holland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, France, Sweden, South Africa, and Japan took part in the championships with their top fighters.

Unfortunately, Afghanistan was the only country in the tournament that due to financial problems participated with only one fighter. Sensei Mohammad Qahar Azadani who was representing our country in 80 Kg weight category division had his first fight with Armenian fighter named Gushchyan Artyom. Fortunately, Sensei Qahar won his first fight very easily with a Wazari. The second fight of sensei Qahar was with Kazakhstan country which is a powerful country in Kyokushin Karate and has really very famous tough fighters. Sensei Qahar and Kazakhstan fighter named Zhumagatiyev Erbol had the first 3 minutes round of their fight equal and the second round was 2 minutes that ended to another equal decision with a strange announcement as the Kazakhstan judge gave his vote to Erbol, Russian judge gave his vote to Afghanistan fighter, and the other two judges declared Ekawake. Therefore, the main referee had no choice but to announce the final decision as equal and directed the fighters for weight difference checking. As a result, Kazakhstan fighter was 2 kg lighter than Afghanistan fighter; and the final decision was announced to the benefit of Erbol, Kazakhstan fighter. The next fight that Erbol had was with the World Champion, Shamsudin Abdurashidov, and he lost the fight as expected.

Thanks to Sensei Qahar for his bravery of participating in such a big tournament. We hope, his experience in this tournament along with his previous championships’ achievements and his hard trainings help Afghanistan to present a powerful team in the next World Championship of Kyokushin-kan International in October 2-4, 2009, Budapest.

Proudly, we can say that participating in the 2nd European Kyokushin-kan Championships was with no doubt a big success for Afghanistan.
